powder compact; embroidery floss; linen; tapestry needle; embroidery scissors; embroidery hoop (optional); circle template; ruler; marking pencil; universal glue

The cross stitch pattern is from the model book “Neues Modelbuch Von unterschiedlicher Art der Blumen und anderer genehten Mödel” by Rosina Helena Fürst.

Step ① : measure diameter of your compact, choose a suitable pattern and start to stitch

Step ② : work a line of running stitch as shown below (use a circle paper template and a marking pencil to draw a circle with the right diameter)

     

Step ③ : work buttonhole stitch over the running stitch guidelines

Step ④ : 

cut fabric away from outside of buttonhole stitch

Step ⑤ :

place a thin line of glue all around the edge of the fabric cirle, on the wrong side

Step ⑥ :

attach the embroidery to the lid of the compact
